Blue Ribbon Pines Engagement Session
I had the pleasure of capturing a truly unique engagement session with Kate and Mark at Blue Ribbon Pines, a disc golf course in East Bethel I’d never thought of as a photo location until they suggested it. We of course played the holes as we made our way through the course. The evening was perfect for an intimate, laid-back session as we played our way through the red pines. We were the last group on the course, so we had the place to ourselves, allowing us to take our time and really explore the expansive property.
It was a great activity to capture both candid and editorial shots. The light was just right that day, filtering through the trees as we caught the tail end of golden hour. As the evening progressed, blue hour began to roll in and we took creative liberties to capture moments in the wide-open fields, enjoying the quiet solitude of the space.
One of the reasons I love activities like this for engagement sessions is because they naturally encourage movement, connection, and playfulness—things that bring life to the photos. When couples feel comfortable enough to let go of any nervous energy and tap into their goofy side, it really shows in the images. Not only does this create authentic, natural moments, but it also helps alleviate the pressure of posing, which makes the entire experience much more enjoyable.
It’s so important to me that my couples feel at ease in front of the camera because the last thing anyone wants is to look back at their photos and feel reminded of the awkward discomfort they felt during the shoot. Through experience, I’ve honed the ability to help couples feel confident and relaxed so their true selves can shine through. In the end, it’s those real, unscripted moments that make the images unforgettable.
Choosing a creative spot like a disc golf course not only gives you one-of-a-kind photos but also helps tell the story of who you are as a couple. Whether it’s an activity you love doing together or simply a place that feels meaningful, incorporating these personal elements into your engagement session makes for a truly unique and memorable experience.
