Longfellow Gardens

I had the honor of documenting a beautiful, moody fall wedding at Longfellow Gardens, which is conveniently located directly across the street from the iconic Minnehaha Falls. The venue’s serene atmosphere, combined with the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding area, made for a truly unforgettable day. While parking can be a bit limited depending on the size of the event and the time of year, the gardens are fully handicap accessible, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the surroundings with ease.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful photo opportunities. The flower gardens themselves offer a variety of scenic spots, from the blooming fields near the creek to the quiet, intimate corners tucked away throughout the space. For those looking to explore, the falls are just across the road, providing a breathtaking backdrop for photos. If you’re willing to wander a bit further, you’ll find walking trails that lead down toward the mighty Mississippi River, where even more stunning views await. With so many picturesque locations, you’ll be sure to find the perfect spot (or several) to capture the magic of your special day.

Though Longfellow Gardens is located in a popular area near a light rail system, the garden itself feels surprisingly peaceful and intimate. The park supervisor was incredibly kind and helpful, making sure everything ran smoothly throughout the day. Even with a few onlookers enjoying the gardens, they were respectful of the event, allowing the couple and their guests to have a private, memorable experience.

As with any fall wedding, the weather can be unpredictable, and a light rain passed through just as the ceremony began. However, the couple’s spirits remained high, and the rain quickly subsided once the ceremony concluded. Afterward, guests headed to the reception at Westwood Hills Nature Center, just west of Minneapolis in St. Louis Park. The center offers a beautiful park filled with boardwalk trails, wildlife, and peaceful spots to sit and enjoy nature. It’s a wonderful location that’s also family-friendly, with animal displays and educational exhibits for guests of all ages to explore.

Fun fact: Longfellow Gardens is a migratory stop for hummingbirds as they make their way south for the winter. If you’re a fan of these charming little birds, planning your wedding, elopement, or engagement during the fall season might just give you the perfect opportunity to witness their migration in action.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet garden setting or scenic views of waterfalls and rivers, Longfellow Gardens offers an idyllic location for a wedding that’s as beautiful as it is memorable.
